Cardio for RookiesAdapted from an Article by: Zach BashoreA brief description on cardio exercise and why you should do it.Weight training is an important aspect of the fitness process along with diet and supplements but, what about the forgotten exercise commonly known as cardio? Cardio is just as important, if not more important than weight training itself and should be at the top of every trainees to-do list. The following is a rundown of the benefits in doing cardiovascular exercise. What is cardiovascular exercise?Anything that elevates your heart rate to burn calories is cardio. If you are moving and increasing your heart rate, you are engaging in cardio activity. It doesn't matter if it is running, cycling, swimming or even dancing, it is all considered cardiovascular activity if you do it at an intensity to increase your heart rate. There are many positive benefits to doing cardiovascular exercise.Your mind will benefit most because cardio helps reduce stress and keeps you in a positive mental state. Not only that, but your body will be benefiting from an increased lung capacity, higher metabolism, and increased blood flow to your brain. If you are eating right, lifting weights and taking your supplements, cardio can be the edge you need to get that amazing ripped body. If you have a job that keeps you active, then there is no need to add more cardio. But since many of us are desk jockeys, cardio needs to be incorporated into our regular workout routine. After all, those muscles aren't going to be very impressive buried under a layer of fat. Some body builders preparing for a contest do up to three hours of cardio daily, but you may not need that much. Decide how much you need to get to where you want to be and then how much you will need to maintain your physique. Remember that a clean diet and supplements will help you achieve and maintain your workout goals. The debate on the best time to do cardio has been going on for years. One person says you should train in the morning on an empty stomach, another says to do cardio after your first meal and your supplements and then another person tells you to do cardio right after you get done weight lifting. All of this information can become confusing and cause you unwanted stress in trying to decide which time is best to do cardio. Again, try them all and make a decision based on good judgment. Do not be discouraged if you cannot get everything right the first try; just use your mistakes as a means for improvement. To Your Success !
